Buzzword PGH

children look through magnifying glasses at letters

Buzzword Pittsburgh excites children ages 0 – 5 and their families as they discover the words that are all around them. Through talk and play about math, science, and art, children can expand their vocabularies and conversation skills.

Research Says:

  • From birth to five, young children’s brains are more open to learning and becoming inspired.
  • Talking with a child helps increase literacy development and communication skills necessary throughout life.
  • Early literacy skills develop in real life settings through positive interactions with learning materials and other people.

The Buzzword Pittsburgh collaborative, led by Trying Together, consists of six partner organizations with expertise in the arts and sciences: Carnegie Science Center, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. They provide interactive learning opportunities that encourage imagination, investigation, and reflection for families. This initiative is supported by PNC Grow Up Great and The Heinz Endowments.

Buzzword Pittsburgh works together with young children and their families in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, surrounding communities, and throughout the city to introduce early learning success through talk and play.
