The Program

MENOTTI: "Prelude" to Amelia Goes to the Ball
NICK DIBERARDINO: New Tuba Concerto World premiere + PSO commission
STRAVINSKY: Petrushka
RAVEL: La Valse

About this Performance

This program features a PSO highlight, with Principal Tuba Craig Knox in a brand-new work by Nick DiBerardino, written specifically for Knox. This piece showcases the tuba in vivid, expressive detail rarely seen in orchestral repertoire, demonstrating the instrument's full lyrical and technical range. The program also includes Stravinsky's Petrushka, the playful and dramatic ballet about a puppet brought to life, filled with Russian folk color and humorous twists. Ravel's La Valse completes the evening with its swirling, hypnotic take on the Viennese waltz, blending elegance and a sense of looming chaos under the direction of Daniele Rustioni, whose strong theatrical sense unifies this adventurous and vibrant program.
